Change happens to all of us. You move to a new country, start a new ministry, or maybe a chapter is coming to an end. These transitions can feel lonely and difficult to navigate. At New Horizons our staff are here to help you.

They say “A change is as good as a holiday.” but change is not always happy. It can come because of loss, broken relationships, or a work environment turning sour. Even when change comes from a good place it can be unsettling.

How will you face your upcoming changes?

New Horizons?

What is

New Horizons?

The world is a big place and we go through a lot of major changes on our path to carving out our little corner. There are many approaches to dealing with these changes, but more often than not we just stumble through them. This can lead to some pretty serious hurt and unnecessary struggle.

Here at New Horizons, we like to take a more intentional approach. We are dedicated to helping you establish healthy life patterns before the transition, reimagine and implement them after the transition, and set yourself up to thrive in your new environment.

What is

Transition coaching?

Following in the theme of life coaching, transition coaching is a tailor-made process designed to help you make the most of the new season coming up.

Our process isn't a lifetime commitment nor is it a one-and-done magic bullet, but rather an 8-month journey, 2 months before and 6 months after the transition. Depending on your needs, you may choose to extend it to a full year. During the first part of the process, we will explore what you hope to see as a result of this change and what tools and skills you will need to make that a reality.

In the second leg of the journey, we will work together to adapt that plan to your new situation as it's impossible to fully foresee how the change will affect you.

For the duration of the 8 months, we will meet on a weekly basis in person or via video call. We will process your experiences and plans, and you will receive assignments and materials to complete based on the areas in your life that you identify as needing support.

"During 2020, at the beginning of the pandemic, my husband and I realized we were heading for a large life transition. We felt it was time to leave our home of 7 years in South Africa and move to my home country of the USA.

An international move is always an incredible transition but the complications of covid made it exceedingly challenging with near-impossible logistics, emotional hardship, governmental policies out of our control, and relational challenges navigating the differing vantage points of the pandemic. Adding to this the complex emotions of teenagers leaving their home country, and young children losing their possessions, home, and friendships, we knew the critical nature of this event to transition well.

We worked with Hythem closely over a period of six months leading up to our transition. He helped us navigate conversations with our children, our ministry -both the one we were departing from and the one we were joining-, and our families and friends.

He suggested a book to read as a family that was an incredible tool, The 7 Habits of Highly Successful Families. Hythem helped us prepare our son who had a unique hostility to the notion of moving, from what could have been a disaster to a grace-filled process. Hythem helped us develop and even more importantly, execute a careful timeline of events and processes that needed to happen for us to transition successfully. His creative and out-of-the-box thinking helped us find ways to lovingly satisfy our need to say goodbye during a time when close contact was forbidden.

When our move was completed, Hythem remained involved in supporting us through our integration into a new culture. He provided prayer, check-ins, counsel, and tools to support our family. The most significant gift was the constant, reassuring encouragement that what we were dealing with was normal, that God had a plan, and that with his help we could handle anything that came our way.

Hythem facilitated the best transition we have ever experienced as missionaries, and without his leadership, we surely would have suffered through many mistakes. It’s hard to estimate the tremendous value of avoiding pitfalls, but we are surely grateful for the transition coaching."

"I highly recommend transition coaching for anyone facing significant life changes, especially when moving to a new country and culture. With the guidance of a skilled coach, such as Hythem, you can find stability, understanding, and effective strategies to thrive in your new circumstances. Spending time to understand culture, grasp the concept of language learning and deal with practicalities such as budgets, were invaluable for me. Having the coaching continue well beyond my arrival helped me to not feel alone and know that my coaches were journeying with me in this new experience, continuing to help me to navigate new challenges and settle in.

I wholeheartedly endorse Hythem as a coach. His background of growing up in the middle east, combined with his incredible depth of knowledge, thoroughly prepared me for my transition to this region. Reading and discussing ‘Jesus through Middle Eastern eyes’ together gave me invaluable insights into a new ministry context. Hythem and his team created a safe space for me to explore the many questions I had and challenges I faced – which included navigating a pandemic in a new location. His supportive nature, combined with his wisdom in navigating the local context, makes him perfect for this role, and I highly recommend him to anyone seeking a transition coach."

"I went for coaching when I was moving from my home country to another country for good. At that time I had already lived abroad for 1,5 years and needed to return to my home country to pack up my life into two suitcases. Hythem's insight and knowledge combined with his empathetic way of coaching encouraged and strengthened me to tackle this challenging task of transition. I can highly recommend his coaching."

----------Stephanie----------

"Hythem has helped me tremendously on the healing path from burnout. As a career missionary, I found myself in a place where I didn't think I could go on. His compassion, patience, understanding, knowledge, and experience have moved me from the bottom and on my way to healing. I would recommend him to anyone who finds themselves in need of coaching for spiritual, ministry, personal or other areas of need in their lives."

----------Todd----------

"Hythem has been coaching my wife and me over the last year as part of our process of transitioning into our new ministry. He was very capable of understanding the challenges of stepping into an existing ministry that required new focus and also the fact that we are stepping into a totally new role in ministry. He has been able to challenge, guide, encourage, and lead us with great passion, perseverance, and commitment. His gentle spirit helped us to never feel threatened. Hythem has a vast knowledge about many aspects of ministry and the world in general which makes him suitable for many environments. He was especially helpful when we had to work through some cultural challenges."

I'm Canadian by nationality, born and raised in the Middle East, and now live in South Africa. I am married and we have one daughter. Growing up in the Middle East, I watched foreigners come and go without proper support. This led to messy situations and even decades later some are still struggling with the repercussions. When my family moved to South Africa after dealing with a major crisis, I began dedicating my time and energy to helping people set themselves up for success. I’ve discovered along the way that no amount of preparation beforehand can compare with the benefit of having someone help you process the unpredictable parts of life once you arrive. The most amazing part in all of this is seeing the incredible healing good support can bring during a transition.

I am what is described as a “third culture kid” (TCK), so I’ve often struggled to feel I truly belong anywhere. My family is grateful to have found community and acceptance at Sunrise Church in Noordhoek, South Africa.
